History

In the early 70’s, while doing research at Purdue University, Dr Kahler discovered a behavioral process that underpinned all forms of verbal communication, that is, a sequence of identifiable patterns of interaction. These sequences included speech patterns associated with positive and negative communication that was sequential, measurable and predictable. On the basis of these observations, Dr Kahler realized that a given type of interaction could be readily identified as being either productive (positive communication) or unproductive (miscommunication).

Soon after, he discovered specific sets of stress related behaviors associated with each way of communicating. Further research allowed him to discover that each of these patterns of talking and acting were statistically correlated to one of six personality types. On the basis of his discovery, Dr Kahler developed a clinical model fro psychiatrists and psychologists, to enable rapid diagnosis, that he called « the mini scripts ». It is this discovery that, in 1977, led over 50000 of his colleagues across the globe to give him the prestigious « Eric Berne Memorial Scientific Award » that rewards the most important discovery in the field of psychology for the year.

In 1978, Dr Terry McGuire of NASA, psychologist in charge of manned space flights, invited Dr Kahler to demonstrate the efficiency of his model in the selection of astronauts. This was the beginning of a long-lasting and fruitful partnership with NASA (1978-1996) that included using the model for the selection, training and management of astronauts. It is during this venture that Dr Kahler translated his concepts in behavior terms.

Thus Dr Kahler created the Personality Pattern Inventory (PPI), a personality assessment that is statistically validated.

Next, he created the « Process Therapy Model», a clinical approach reserved for professional therapists.

And finally, he developed the Process Communication model for the business world, which is a method to evaluate personalities and better communicate and manage. For the last 35 years, other researches have allowed the model to evolve, with the same scientific methodology, which makes it one of the only personality models that is statistically validated
