Basic Principles
Taibi Kahler declares : « If you want them to listen to what you say, talk their language.»
The Process Communication model is based on two major principles :
- Everyone is a mixture of six types of personality and everyone has a main one (called the “base”) with specific character strengths. The « base » which defines the way someone perceives life will have a major influence on his communication style.
- An efficient communication implies that the way we express what we mean to say is more important than what we say.
Consequently, it is the mastery of the Process that will determine how good a communicator we are.
The six Personality Types that Dr Kahler defined are:
- The individual whose main approach to life is that of a Harmonizer is concerned by others to the point of over adaptation ; he has obvious relational qualities.
- The one whose base is that of a Persister is so focused on values that he may sometimes push them on others; he is conscientious, reliable and often a leader.
- The base Promoter wants things to move to the point of putting pressure when action is lacking; he has the knack to adapt to new situations or to find a way out.
- The one who has as a base the Personality Type that Dr Kahler calls Rebel loves to have fun even when working and of that’s not possible, he might end up bothering everybody; he is as creative as he is playful.
- A base Dreamer needs space and calm to be productive otherwise, he may withdraw within himself; he is known to be discreet yet deep.
- The one whose main feature is that of Workaholic prefers to think in a systematic and logical manner, if not, he may become overly detail oriented and start over controlling others; he is known to be responsible and often well organized.
